Student Exchange

Darwin High School is an active participant in student exchange programs. Exchange programs provide great benefit to the whole Darwin High School community as all students gain from sharing and learning about different cultures, countries and ideas, while accessing a world class education at our school.

NT Government secondary student exchange program

The secondary student exchange program is a reciprocal program: Northern Territory students attend high school and enrol in a full time school program in another country for a minimum of three months and students from other countries undertake study in the Northern Territory under similar conditions. The objectives of the program are to:

  • provide educational enrichment for exchange students by developing their linguistic skills and introducing them to a different educational philosophy, environment and curriculum
  • develop cultural awareness and understanding among students in the school environment
  • promote international understanding and cooperation.

This program is coordinated by the NT Department of Education in partnership with several registered secondary student exchange organisations

Rotary Youth Exchange

We have been involved with the Rotary exchange for over 20 years. The Rotary Youth Exchange program is open to high school students between the ages of 15 and 18.Students spend a year in another country, becoming fluent in the language and immersed in the culture, and developing friendships that will last a lifetime.

Teacher exchanges

At Darwin High School we also participate in the NT Government's Teacher Exchange program which gives Northern Territory teachers the opportunity to apply for a reciprocal exchange with teachers from other school systems in Australia and overseas. This program is coordinated through the NT Department of Education.
