Students Dance Their Way Through Spanish Class with Bachata!

By teacher Illaria Tomassi

The lively rhythm and smooth moves of this Dominican dance had everyone on their feet, creating an energetic and fun atmosphere. Not only did students learn about the history of Bachata, but they also got a hands-on experience with the music and dance that plays a key role in many Spanish-speaking countries. It was a fantastic way to connect language learning with cultural immersion!

I recently attended a bachata dancing lesson, and it was an incredible experience! The instructor was both knowledgeable and approachable, breaking down the steps in a way that was easy to follow, even for beginners like me. They paced the class perfectly, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their skill level, felt comfortable and confident.

The energy in the room was infectious, and the music kept us all moving. By the end of the lesson, not only had I learned several key bachata moves, but I also felt more connected with the rhythm and flow of the dance.

From the second I walked into the dance room the energy was truly immaculate! From the Spanish music in the background and the people warming up while chatting excitedly, I knew it was going to be a fun 2 hours. When the lesson began, I appreciated how we got straight into the dancing and learning the steps with music instead of having to listen to context and an explanation, it was straight to the point, which to me meant more time for fun! I noticed myself improving as the lesson progressed which is always a good feeling, and by the end of the lesson I could proudly say I was confident in my ability to execute what we had learnt over the course of the lesson. Overall, it was extremely fun, and I would absolutely love to do it again!

In my opinion, the Latin dancing workshop was very fun. The instructor was easy to understand, and the moves were quite simple. I felt the class engaged well and worked well together. it was overall a good experience and I’m glad I took part to learn a little bit of the fun side to Spanish.

Thursday's Latin Dance workshop was incredibly interesting and educational. I had some great fun and I'd like to try to learn more styles and variations. The teaching was slow and gentle, and the environment created was very freeing and enjoyable. If given the opportunity, I would love to do something like this again!
