DHS Debate Club Update

DHS Debate Club Update

The DHS Debate Club is a student-driven club which produces debaters who have gone on to successfully represent the Northern Territory in local and Inter-State competitions. Our after-school debates allow members to work on team dynamics and to hone their debating skills.

The Club is open to all students, and we encourage those who have never debated before to join. The Club is mentored by a number of teachers from the English Humanities faculty, and the development of students in this field becomes apparent as the semester progresses.

The Club meets on Tuesdays at lunch in A3. After-school debates are held on Thursdays and our first was Thursday 23 August where teams argued the motion “That we should introduce affirmative action for men in fields where they are underrepresented (e.g. nursing, social work, gender studies)”. The debate was lively and teams produced some thought provoking arguments.
