Safi’s Dream
Darwin High School student Safi Sango has always dreamed of owning a computer of her own. So when she received the Savannah Holloway Award for Commitment and Dedication to Education award at the schools 2017 Annual Presentation Night, she knew exactly what she wanted to do with her scholarship money.
Safi is a former SIEU student, now in mainstream classes and she is working to complete her NTCET and aspires to become a nurse. A war refugee from Congo, Safi had never even used a computer until she arrived in Australia in 2016 and started at Darwin High School.
The Savannah Holloway Award is a tribute for a much loved Melaleuca youth worker who passed away in unfortunate circumstances. Her mother started the Savannah Holloway Scholarship to help girls of refugee background in her memory and the scholarship is used towards the recipient’s education whilst they are studying at DHS.
