Seniors’ Morning of Entertainment
On Friday 23 August, Darwin High, hosted its annual Seniors’ Morning of Entertainment event. Proudly in its eleventh year, many of the guests declared it the highlight of the Seniors’ Month Calendar.
The program for the morning was packed with student performances including: the Darwin High School Concert Band, School Choir and Music students; and Dance students. Year 11 student Harvie Stiller-Wojkowski and Year 12 student Sam Roussos shared the MC role, while members of the SRC and Year 11 Student Leadership Group created a welcoming environment for the Seniors, escorting them during the event.
Over 130 members of the community attended the celebration and in addition to the music and dance performances, also enjoyed a morning tea prepared and served by the Stage 2 Integrated Learning Catering Class. The students chose recipes in line with Nutrition Australia guidelines for maximum nutrition in small portions and followed a defined catering budget. With many guests rating as restaurant quality, everyone agreed it was absolutely delicious.
The morning also showcased an exhibition by Year 10-12 Art Practical, Photography and Design students. Guests were impressed with a wide variety of works including painting, reduction lino cuts, watercolours and acrylic, macro photography, fashion and product design.
This year we also had the privilege of hosting Her Honour, Vicky O’Halloran, the Administrator of the Northern Territory. She, like all our guests, was incredibly impressed by the calibre of our students in all their roles and described it as world class.
Principal, Jill Hazeldine
All of the students were outstanding and the guests thoroughly enjoyed the amazing morning tea and all of the performances. The students assisting our guests were wonderful ambassadors for our school. I can understand why this event is one of the hottest tickets in Seniors’ Week and such a great way of giving back to our community. Congratulations to all involved.
Thank you to everyone who supported and attended the event. We look forward to welcoming you all again in 2020.
