The Northern Territory Government is investing $39 million in the Bullocky Point Education Precinct over the next five years. In 2018-2019 this will include two major projects, the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Centre at Darwin High and the Multi-purpose Hall at Darwin Middle.
The Darwin High School STEAM Centre will provide students with modern classrooms and a state-of-the-art facility. The building will provide students with a cutting-edge FAB-lab, fifteen contemporary interconnecting classrooms over two levels and presentation and project spaces.
This week the new Minister for Education, Selena Uibo announced that local company Sunbuild had been awarded the construction tender. Pictured above is an artists' impression of the exterior of the STEAM Centre.
The demolition stage will commence over the three week mid-year break to clear space for the new building and there will be additional construction fencing on campus when students return next term. Construction of the STEAM Centre is expected to be completed in June 2019, with the facility open to students in Term 3, 2019.
The Darwin High School Executive team are working hard to ensure there is minimal interruption to teaching and learning. For more information visit http://www.education.nt.gov.au. Regular updates will be available in the school newsletter and on the Darwin High web page.
