The Duke Edinburgh’s International Award is an internationally recognised program for young people, building their skills to equip them for life and work. Students who complete the Award learn skills, improve their physical wellbeing and volunteer in their community.

The Duke Edinburgh’s International Award is an internationally recognised program for young people, building their skills to equip them for life and work. Students who complete the Award learn skills, improve their physical wellbeing and volunteer in their community

The choice to do the Award is entirely voluntary and students determine the activities they want to take part in. It is a very personal program that offers young people a structure to fulfil their passions and ambitions in a way that suits them.

At Darwin High School students complete the Award independently and are expected to facilitate their own progress through the program. The Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator provides supervision and support for Award activities and assessments.

Credit contribution

The completion of the Duke of Edinburgh Award can contribute credit towards Stage 1 NTCET requirements.

The Duke of Edinburgh is truly is a once in a lifetime experience. It teaches you many valuable skills from self importance to a sense of identity and purpose. By doing the Award, it allowed me to focus on activities and journeys that I enjoyed, which ultimately allowed for breaks through Year 12. I would recommend it to those who are willing to learn and give themselves to new experiences, and there is always the added benefit of being able to shine on your resumes as it is an internationally recognised award.
