Defence Transition Mentor

Darwin High School has a Defence Transition Mentor located in the Student Support Centre to provide support to all Defence students and their families during their secondary education at Darwin High. These students and their families can access a range of support services funded by the Department of Defence.

About the Defence Mentor

The role of our Defence Transition Mentor includes:

  • raising awareness of Defence related issues facing students such as when parents are on deployment.
  • facilitating the Education Assistance Scheme, which provides tutorial assistance for students.
  • identifying and responding to the issues and needs of individual students.

Tutoring for Defence students

Reimbursement for tutoring may be available to secondary students within the first 18 months of enrolment at a new school if the student is experiencing educational difficulties or disruption as a result of a Defence posting. Defence Family Helpline

The Defence Family Helpline operates 24-7 and is staffed by qualified human services professionals including social workers and psychologists. The Helpline is the first point of contact for ADF members, their partners, children and relatives who require assistance or information. Call 1800 624 608 for assistance.

The Compass App

Students and their families are encouraged to download the Darwin High School Compass app to their smart phone/tablet device. Compass app allows you to stay up to date with announcements and events, complete a range of e-forms for student absences and excursions and easily contact us via phone or email direct from the app.
