Students of High Performance

Students of High Performance (SOHP) is an English program for Year 10 students.

Who is SOHP for?

Students in our SOHP English classes are students who have been performing at a high level in Year 9 English. SOHP students study challenging texts and have an interest in English literature. Students analyse texts using sophisticated and precise English. Students also create texts for a range of contexts using appropriate style and conventions. There is an expectation that students in the SOHP English program maintain a high level of performance during Semester 1 in order to remain in the program for Semester 2. This performance relates to both summative and formative assessment items as well as participation, work ethic and attendance.

How do I apply?

Entry into SOHP is selective. This means students in Year 9 apply for a limited number of places and undertake a placement test. The results of this test, along with students' Year 9 English folio are assessed for a position in the class. SOHP testing usually takes place in Term 4 of each year.

Entry testing for the 2024 Program will be held on Friday 15 September. Registration for 2024 closes on Wednesday 13 September and late registrations will not be accepted.

Students’ results are reviewed at the end of Semester 1 and potential SOHPs in mainstream classes have a chance to gain a place.
