Students of High Performance

Students of High Performance (SOHP) is an English program for Year 10 students.

Who is SOHP for?

Students in our SOHP English classes are students who have been performing at a high level in Year 9 English. SOHP students study challenging texts and have an interest in English literature.

Students analyse texts using sophisticated and precise English. Students also create texts for a range of contexts using appropriate style and conventions.

There is an expectation that students in the SOHP English program maintain a high level of performance during Semester 1 in order to remain in the program for Semester 2. This performance relates to both summative and formative assessment items as well as participation, work ethic and attendance.

Special Programs Information Session

Year 9 students and families who are interested in our Centre for Excellence and Students of High Performance English programs are invited to attend an Information Session on Wednesday 5 June from 5.00pm - 6.00pm in the STEAM Theatre.

How do I apply?

Entry into SOHP is selective. This means students in Year 9 apply for a limited number of places and undertake a placement test.

  1. Complete the CompassTix registration form in the student’s name.
  2. Email a copy of the Year 9 Semester 1 report to [email protected] before the entry test date.
  3. Complete the 2026 enrolment form and for students not currently enrolled at Darwin Middle or Nightcliff Middle the enrolment application form and submit either in person to the Front Office or via email to [email protected] prior to the entry test date.

Entry Test Details

There is a cost of $10 associated with each special program entry test.

Final selection into the program is based on test results and past academic performance (evidenced through school reports).
