Computer Systems Development


In this subject students investigate existing information technology systems to discover their nature and components.

About the subject

Students develop a range of information technology skills and techniques while creating their own systems that can be tested and evaluated. They develop and apply specialised skills and techniques in the use of software in a number of information technology areas.

Stage 1 Information Technology is organised into the following six topics:

  • Topic 1: Computer Systems
  • Topic 2: Relational Databases
  • Topic 3: Application Programming
  • Topic 4: Multimedia Programming
  • Topic 5: Website Programming
  • Topic 6: Dynamic Websites.

A 10-credit subject consists of two topics. Stage 1 Computer Systems Development consists of Topic 3: Application Programming and Topic 5: Website Programming.


Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their through the following assessment types:

  • Type 1: Folio
  • Type 2: Skills and Applications Tasks
  • Type 3: Project
