Students develop a range of information technology skills and techniques while creating their own systems that can be tested and evaluated. Students develop and apply specialised knowledge, skills and techniques in the use of software in a number of information technology areas.
Stage 2 Information Technology consists of two core topics and five option topics, from which two are chosen for study.
The two option topics usually covered at Darwin High School are Relational Databases and Application Programming.
Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

Students undertake a 2-hour examination, which assesses the two core topics and option topics. The examination consists of short-answer questions and extended-response questions.
The examination will be graded by external assessors with reference to the performance standards.
The Information Technology Subject Outline includes performance standards, which describe five levels of achievement that are reported with the grades A to E at the student’s completion of the subject.
The school-based assessments and the external assessment will be graded with reference to the performance standards.
