SySTEMic is a hands-on project-based STEM subject that is targeted at students who aren’t yet sure about whether they’d like to pursue a STEM/Engineering-based career.
The course is offered in partnership with Engineers Australia and aims to encourage more students to take some of the more challenging mathematics and physical science courses in secondary school to allow them to be successful in an Engineering based career.
Semester 2 of 2021 will see Darwin High School pilot this subject for Year 10 students.
Students work in teams of four to complete a project of their own choosing.
Each team will be mentored by an industry expert engineer to help guide their project. Students also get to go on excursions to visit businesses (COVID willing) to see what engineers actually do.
Students and their families are encouraged to download the Darwin High School Compass app to their smart phone/tablet device. Compass app allows you to stay up to date with announcements and events, complete a range of e-forms for student absences and excursions and easily contact us via phone or email direct from the app.
