Student attendance

To achieve our attendance goals for all students the Home Liaison Officer and Year Coordinators work with students, parents and guardians to improve attendance. We actively monitor student attendance on a daily basis and will communicate with parents regarding any concerns about attendance.

Regular attendance and student success

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact us if there are any concerns regarding their child’s attendance.

What role can parents/guardians play regarding attendance?

Parents and guardians are encouraged to make contact with the school when their child is absent or late. Parents and guardians are able to provide notification of absences using the following options:

  • Compass
  • Email: dhs.attendance@education.nt.gov.au
  • Phone the Front office on: 08 89991222
  • Students who are absent for more three days due to being sick will require medical certificate

Holidays

Darwin High School would like parents and guardians to consider the impact of extended absences on student outcomes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to arrange holiday travel outside of school days. This is particularly important for Year 12 students who have significant school commitments in their final year.

Student Expectations

Year 10, 11 and SIEU students are required to attend all classes as recorded on their timetable.

Students who are late for school should go straight to class.

Students who need to leave school during class time need parent/guardian permission.

Parents and guardians can sign a student out at Student Services or contact the school via email, Compass, phone or parental note.

Year 12 students

Year 12 students leaving the school grounds during recess, lunch or study periods must sign out at Student Services.

Signing out during class time can be done at Student Services, the absence will be recorded as un-notified unless a parent/guardian has provided notification to the school.

Students are required to attend all timetabled classes with the exception of study lines. Students are encouraged to use the on campus study facilities and resources during study lines.

The Compass App

Students and their families are encouraged to download the Darwin High School Compass app to their smart phone/tablet device. Compass app allows you to stay up to date with announcements and events, complete a range of e-forms for student absences and excursions and easily contact us via phone or email direct from the app.
