$200 Back to School Payment Scheme - 2026

The Back-to-School payment scheme (BTS) is a Northern Territory Government initiative that provides financial support to families by assisting with school-related costs for educational goods and services.

What is the BTS entitlement?

  • The scheme provides $200 per eligible student, per school year.
  • Students from preschool to Year 12 who are enrolled before the end of Term 3 at NT Government or non-government schools are eligible.
  • The entitlement can be used only at the first school the student attends in the school year.
  • Students who are dual enrolled will receive their entitlement at their main school.

Using the BTS at Darwin High School

A list of educational goods and services available for purchase at Darwin High School using the BTS is provided here

  • The full $200 entitlement must be used before the end of Term 3.
  • Schools keep a record of all BTS expenditure.
  • Families with multiple children enrolled at the same school may choose to combine their entitlements into one lump sum to better support their students’ needs.

Who can use the entitlement?

  • Ideally, a parent or guardian uses the BTS entitlement.
  • Darwin High School students may use the entitlement with parent permission to purchase approved school items.
  • The Department of Education and the school do not take responsibility if a student uses the entitlement without parent permission.
  • A child who is living independently may access their entitlement without parent approval.

Where possible, families are encouraged to discuss how the entitlement should be used.
If there are court or family court orders in place, these must be followed in all matters relating to the BTS entitlement.
