Literary Laughs

Last week, Ms Pridham's Year 12 English Studies class took an interpretive take on analysing their current text Cloudstreet.
Students partook in a creative activity that tested their knowledge of the characters in the text studied. Lots of fun and laughs were shared as the group prepares for the final weeks of the course in the lead up to exams.
Cloudstreet is a play based on Tim Winton’s novel, and it may be one of the texts students write an essay on for the folio and also the exam. The class participated in a shared reading of the play as a way to bring the play and its characters to life, which produced a great deal of hilarity as well as a few tears. The class has been undertaking serious study of the characters, the ideas in the text, and the theatrical devices used to explore the ideas including: gender, environment, class and racism. This has been done through a range of not so serious activities – Kahoot (online quiz), speed dating, celebrity heads (with masks as per image) and jigsaw puzzles relating to ideas and techniques.
This is the final year of English Studies as a course offering. From 2017 it will be replaced by the new Stage 2 English Literary Studies course.
