Integrated Learning Applied Physics

Course Content

Students should have an interest in the practical application of science.

This includes students who may be interested in completing an apprenticeship or students who may be interested in a career in engineering.

Although there are no prerequisites to complete this subject, ideally students would have demonstrated their interest in this area by attempting Semester 1 Stage 1 Physics. Students would demonstrate their understanding of concepts by completing one or more projects. These projects would be student developed and may include:

• Student-led projects will be negotiated with the teacher.
• Students will be expected to participate in excursions to local businesses.

Students can complete both Stage 1 Applied Physics and Stage 1 Physics in Year 12. However, students must pass two semesters of Stage 1 Physics if they wish to study Stage 2 Physics in Year 12.

Course Fees

$80 for excursions and consumables – wiring, etc.

Students will need to supply all consumables on ‘take home’ projects

Assessment

The course will be assessed under the SACE Design and Technology curriculum. This allows for more open-ended problem solving and allows greater flexibility in how students demonstrate what they know and can do.

The assessment will be related to student projects and may include:

• Project research
• Design of project
• Theory relating to the project
• Calculations relating to the project
• Testing of the project /model
• Further development of the project

Students will be assessed across the following assessment types:

• Type 1: Skills and application tasks
• Type 2: Folio
• Type 3: Product
