- Further study Stage 2 Child Studies (2BUSEY)
Child Studies is a subject that focuses on the study of children from conception to 8 years. It is a subject that supports an active process of learning where students engage in challenging experiences.
In this subject students have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of young children through individual, collaborative, and practical learning.
Students study topics within one or more of the following three areas of study:
In this subject students investigate contemporary issues that are relevant to children and their development. They may consider broad themes such as those related to migrants, refugees and children, displacement, health issues for children in Indigenous communities, access to education, exploitation of children, literacy and numeracy, disability and equity, child protection, gender stereotyping in play, clothing and textiles, merchandising, and children’s television.
Student analyse current local and global trends in relation to children and critique government and global initiatives and strategies for the well-being and protection of children. Students develop empathy for different cultures, genders, disabilities, age groups, and various attitudes, values, and beliefs of adults and community groups, in relation to children and child-rearing practices.
Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
