Course Details

This course prepares students for studying Health and Wellbeing at Stage 2.

About the Subject

Students develop skills to consider how changing social structures, community values, environmental issues, and new technologies affect the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

In this subject students study at least one core concept and at least one option study from the following:

  • Ways of Defining Health
  • Health Literacy

Option Studies

  • Health and Participation in an Active Lifestyle
  • The Effects of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs on Health
  • Health and the Environment
  • Contemporary Health Priorities in Australia
  • Health and Relationships
  • Mental and Emotional Health
  • Growing up Healthy

Assessment

Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types: 

  • Practical Action
  • Inquiry Issue
