Industry and Entrepreneurial Solutions: Innovation and 3D Printing

1IES20

About The Subject

This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of 3D Design using the Computer Aided Design (CAD) Program, the course includes a wide range of applications using Rhino3D to include jewelry, boat-building, fashion, architecture, industrial design and many other areas of design.

Course Content

The course focuses on how to develop original ideas and concepts and push them to be innovative. Prototyping, modelling and testing ideas is at the heart of making good design. Models will be made using the schools 3D printing systems, and industrial robot arm.

Students identify, create, initiate, and develop products or processes. They learn to use tools, materials, systems safely and competently, to complete a product. Students explore and analyse the impacts of technology, including social, environmental, and sustainable consequences.

Part 2 of this course further builds and develops the capabilities learnt and applied from part 1 and prepares the student for Stage 2 application of similar course.

Students will learn

  • CAD Information Systems
  • Design process
  • Communications
  • Social Issues
  • Cad modelling, rendering,
  • Prototyping, 3d printing and CNC/Milling and robot arm

Assessment

Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students provide evidence of learning through four to five assessments, with at least one assessment from Assessment Type 1, and one assessment from each of Assessment Types 2 and 3.

  • Assessment Type 1: Skills and Applications Tasks
  • Assessment Type 2: Folio
  • Assessment Type 3: Product
