Japanese Continuers

This is a Stage 1 (Year 11) course that is also offered to Year 10 students.

Course details

  • Prerequisites Semester 1 Japanese, or completed at least 2 years of Japanese study at Middle School, or who have an equivalent level of proficiency
  • Further study This course prepares students for studying Japanese Continuers at the Stage 2 level

About the subject

Students interact with others to share information, ideas, opinions and experiences. They create texts in the specific language to express information, feelings, ideas and opinions. They analyse texts to interpret meaning, and examine relationships between language, culture and identity, and reflect on the ways in which culture influences communication.

Stage 1 Japanese at continuers level consists of three themes and a number of prescribed topics and suggested subtopics. The themes explored are:

  • The Individual
  • The Japanese speaking Communities
  • The Changing World

Bilingual dictionary (Japanese to English, English to Japanese) is highly recommended.

Assessment

Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Type 1: Interaction
  • Type 2: Text Production
  • Type 3: Text Analysis
  • Type 4: Investigation
