Physics

11PYS1/11PYS2

The study of physics offers opportunities for students to understand and appreciate the natural world.

Course details

  • Further study Stage 2 Physics (2PHYSY)

About the subject

In Physics students will study models, laws, and theories to better understand matter, forces, energy, and the interaction among them.

Course content

Students must be able to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding of the three strands of science:

  • science inquiry skills (SIS)
  • science as a human endeavor (SHE)
  • science understanding.

Science understanding is delivered under six main topic areas. Three topics will be covered each semester:

  • Topic 1: Linear motion and forces
  • Topic 2: Electric circuits
  • Topic 3: Heat
  • Topic 4: Energy and momentum
  • Topic 5: Waves
  • Topic 6: Nuclear models and radioactivity.

Assessment

Students provide evidence of their learning through four assessments each semester.

Assessment Weighting
Science as a Human Endeavour Investigation 25%
Deconstruct and Design Practical 25%
Test 25%
Examination 25%
