In this subject students learn creative, technical, and physical knowledge and understanding, and an appreciation of dance as an art form through the study of technique, composition, choreography, performance, and critical analysis.
About the subject
Dance develops individuals who are reflective thinkers who can pose and solve problems and work both independently and collaboratively. As students engage with dance practice and practitioners in diverse global contexts, they develop imaginative and innovative ways to make meaning of the world.
Dance establishes a basis for further education and employment across many fields including the arts and culture industries. It also provides opportunities to pursue lifelong social and recreational activities.
There is a regular after school rehearsal allocation - 1 day a week for 2.5 hours - to prepare for the External Moderation.
Students demonstrate their learning through the following assessment types:
School Based Assessment | Weighting |
Response | 20% |
Skills Development | 50% |
External Assessment | |
Group Performance | 30% |
Stage 2 Dance students take to the stage to share their performance work - they may choose an onstage role (minimum 15 minutes onstage) or offstage role (presentation of 10-15 minutes with back up material)
