About the subject

Visual Art engages students by delivering a hands-on approach to learning. It aids in developing skills in innovative thinking, visual communication, critical thinking and problem-solving. Students acquire both conceptual and technical skills to express their ideas, thoughts, understanding and opinions of the world around them. They learn visual language through the exploration and analysis of international, national and local artists’ practices. Students engage with arts industry professionals and institutions through excursions, incursions, artist led workshops and school based creative activities. Students have access to high quality materials and facilities which enables the creation of accomplished resolved works of art.

Course Content

Students will learn

• How to generate an artwork from initial idea to fruition.
• Skills in the production of art works and the processes involved.
• How to research, analyse and respond to artworks.
• Curatorial skills for exhibition.

Assessment

• Folio - 30%
• Practical x 2 - 20% each
• Artist and Artwork Analysis – 20%
• Exhibition – 10%
