This course will introduce the fundamentals of ceramics. Students will learn the foundations of hand building and wheel throwing techniques and explore the functional and sculptural applications of clay.
This class focuses on craft technique, problem solving and creative expression. Project based learning will give students the opportunity to construct clay pots and sculptural forms as well as glazing and surface decoration. The course will include the design process from start to finish, so along with technical skills students will be more confident in generating ideas. An introduction to traditional and historical vessels will also encourage students to explore the possibilities of ceramic arts.
Students and their families are encouraged to download the Darwin High School Compass app to their smart phone/tablet device.
