Year 10 Legal Studies is designed to provide an introductory course in civics and the law.
The course is very much hands on, with students participating in mock trials, parliaments and debates. Students will take part in excursions to the law courts and parliament house, as well as listening to guest speakers from the police, Legal Aid and other organisations that are stakeholders in the legal system. Students will explore ‘celebrity’ cases, as well as studying key moments in Australian legal history. Students will also discuss and analyse the way the law is portrayed in TV shows such as CSI and Law and Order.
Students and their families are encouraged to download the Darwin High School Compass app to their smart phone/tablet device. Compass app allows you to stay up to date with announcements and events, complete a range of e-forms for student absences and excursions and easily contact us via phone or email direct from the app.
