About the subject

Students analyse, interact with and produce media texts from a range of media types. The purpose of the unit at this year level is to introduce students to key concepts in Media Studies and develop their understanding and knowledge of these concepts. Essential production skills will also be taught, which students can then carry into Stage 1 and 2.

Course content

In Year 10 Media Studies is designed to provide a basis of understanding of different media types which would then provide a platform for students going on to complete Media Studies in Stage 1 and 2. In a 20 week course, the unit will cover three topics chosen from those listed below:

  • Topic One: An introduction to Media Studies
  • Topic Two: Written Media
  • Topic Three: Visual Media
  • Topic Four: Audio/Aural Media
  • Topic Five: Multimedia.
