Stage 1 Dance

Stage 1 subject open to Year 10 students

Year 10 students have the opportunity to study Stage 1 Dance. In this subject students develop creative, technical, and physical understanding, and an appreciation of dance as an art form.

About the subject

Stage 1 Dance Semester 1 (1DES1)

In Stage 1 Dance students are developing their technical and expressive skills as dancers, working collaboratively to learn, share, and create dance.

Students work to refine their technique, learn and perform repertoire (dance works), create choreography, and conduct research on various genres and styles of dance. Students engage in multiple performance opportunities over the semester, including a public, general admission audience.

Stage 1 Dance is open to Year 10 students in both semesters.

Assessment:

  • Skills Development – Technique (30%)
  • Creative Explorations – Choreography (20%)
  • Creative Explorations – Performance (30%)
  • Dance Contexts (20%)

Stage 1 Dance Semester 2 (1DCES2)

In Stage 1 Dance students are developing their technical and expressive skills as dancers, working collaboratively to learn, share, and create dance.

Students work to learn and perform repertoire (dance works), create choreography, conduct research on choreographers of interest across various styles and genres and evaluate their own creative process. Students engage in multiple performance opportunities over the semester, including a public, general admission audience.

Stage 1 Dance is open to Year 10 students in both semesters.

  • Creative Explorations – Performance (30%)
  • Dance Contexts (25%)
