2016 Remembrance Day

2016 Remembrance Day

2016 marks the centenary of Fromelles and Pozieres, significant battles on the Western Front in which many Australian lives, including Territorians’ were lost.

Tash Allama, Morgan Gurry, Kaylena Marimowa, Rory McGrath, Nusky Nawasdeen, Reonia Ryan and Despina Sisois all braved 34 ͤC heat and 70% humidity to represent Darwin High School at the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph to honour those men.

Tash and Morgan placed a tribute from the Rainforest Guides on the Cenotaph, and Kaylena, Rory, Nusky, Reonia and Despina all helped distribute poppies which were placed on the Cenotaph.

The students received many compliments on their presentation and demeanour, with the Chief Minister the Hon Michael Gunner MLA especially congratulating them, along with the Member for Port Darwin the Hon Paul Kirby and officials from the Darwin RSL and other dignitaries. Later on Mr Luke Gosling OAM MP, Member for Solomon spent some time soaking up the cool of the air-con in the bus talking to students.
