Alpine Adventure

The 2019 Darwin High School Ski Trip was a great success and proved that while nothing beats a Darwin dry season, there is nothing like a trip to the snow! 

Twenty Darwin High School students and three teachers participated in this year’s excursion, and many had never seen the snowboarded before.

Throughout the trip the group enjoyed perfect snow weather with temperatures ranging between 2°C and -7°C but the cold winds didn't stop Darwin High students from shredding up (and more often than not) falling down the slopes. Even new skiers and snowboarders were keen to brave the terrain parks and unbelievably thick powder.

The students spent two hours each morning in snow class, where they learned new skills and tricks on skis and snowboards. After a break for lunch the students would then spend the afternoon exploring the slopes of Mount Perisher in search of jumps and putting their new skills into practice. After dinner the students would all gather at the lodge to share a hot chocolate stories from their day by the fire. 

Over the course of the week students gained more confidence and started attempting challenging ski runs and tricks in the terrain parks. Students of all abilities worked together in small groups to teach and assist each other in improving their skills. 

The Ski Trip is such a great opportunity for students to develop their social and emotional learning in a new and challenging environment. Students work both independently and in groups to master these skills and successfully achieve their goals.
