7TEEN

7TEEN

By Sarah Calver, Performing Arts Teacher DHS

7TEEN was a creative partnership project with professional artist Jordan Bretherton and the DHS Dance Department. It celebrated the extraordinary talents of both Jordan and the 2019 Stage 2 Creative Arts Dance cohort – 13 exceptional artistic individuals. An incredible journey and an innovative Dance product - this show achieved everything it was set out to achieve.

The choreographer/mentor’s clever tasking and concepts were delivered to inspire, extend and motivate this extraordinary group of young artists and it was wonderful to see their growth as dance artists. Mitchell Aldridge, also a DHS alumni created an original soundscape that was inventive and provided sophisticated challenges for the movement, its patterning and formation. The calm and creative Chris Osborne added to the ambience of the work with her atmospheric lighting design.

As a Dance Educator and an established Dance Practitioner, I continue to be inspired by the inventive and creative visions that contribute to making our NT Dance sector vibrant. Observing and creating environments where dance artists can continue to explore new ideas and dare to take risks has enabled me to work with a myriad of exceptional artists. Some of them were once students of mine who have followed their passion to extend their learning beyond the borders of the NT, Jordan Bretherton is one of those remarkable artists and it has been a privilege being part of the realization of his clever and creative new work 7TEEN. To the amazing and captivating cast of 7TEEN it was a memorable season of dynamic dance.

Audience Feedback 7TEEN

Congratulations Jordan and all in 7TEEN! I really enjoyed your artistry unfolding enabling these extraordinary dancers to express from their own unique animal instincts. Very clever patterning and beautiful designs. Intriguing sound scape by Mitchell Aldridge. My students loved the show and came away very inspired
