A Celebration of Tremendous Achievement

A Celebration of Tremendous Achievement

On Tuesday 3 September SIEU held a special assembly to celebrate the achievements of some of their graduating Year 12 students who started their DHS education in the Secondary Intensive English Unit.

The final year students reflected on their time at Darwin High School and the challenges they have faced and overcome to achieve their NTCET. They shared their learnings with fellow SIEU students and then everyone enjoyed sharing memories (and some tears).

The students spoke of how highly they valued their time in the SIEU – the encouragement of the teachers and the friendships they made.

The teachers spoke of how proud they should be of their achievements – settling in to a new culture and learning a second, third or even fourth language. Above all, their ability to learn through English and attain their NTCET is truly an amazing achievement.

The Year 12s gave advice to our new arrivals, now sitting in the same classrooms they once sat. “Be organised,” said some. “Keep trying,” said others. “Always backup your assignments,” said all.
