Quality Educator Award
Darwin High School Dance teacher Sarah Calver has been awarded the Australian Education Union NT 2016 Quality Educator Award. This is a wonderful achievement and very well-deserved. Sarah has, and continues to be, an inspiration to hundreds of students. She is a fierce dance pioneer in the Territory, but also a gregarious teacher encouraging camaraderie among schools offering dance, as her main aim is to have as many people experiencing dance in their lives. Here is a snapshot of feedback from her colleagues and students:
“Sarah constantly strives to create authentic learning experiences for her students. Dance is her passion and this is transfused throughout every learning experience.” Kate O’Halloran, Drama teacher
"I believe Sarah Calver has found the secret formula for a successful class: well accepted and motivated students being led by an inspiring and truly caring teacher. " Maria Sounios, current Year 12 Dance student
“My time as a student of Sarah Calver’s was the most exhausting, rewarding, challenging and enlightening 3 years, and if given the choice I would do it all over again." Macon Riley, ex-Dance student
“Sarah has big dreams for the teenagers she teaches, the peers she believes in and for the Darwin dance community. She is an exemplary Educator whose investment in dance in Darwin has a history and future we need to acknowledge because, quite simply, she is the reason so many NT dance practitioners have followed their passion.” Joanna Noonan, Dance teacher
“Sarah is always professional and supportive in every aspect of her dealings with students, their friends and families” Jenny Jenkinson, parent
“With a wealth of industry knowledge, safe dance practices, positivity mixed with a sense of humour, she weaves her magic encouraging her students to dream big, to be brave, producing resilient and creative participants in life.” Julia Quinn, Dance teacher
