Arafura Games

Darwin High School students are set to compete in the 2019 Arafura Games from 26 April to 4 May.
Year 10 student Matilda Carter is competing in Women’s Soccer, Year 11 student Emerson Pomfret is competing in Athletics and Year 12 students Jordyn Galbraith in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, Abdurahman Roach in the 5km and 10km running race and Wironika Winarko is volunteering with the soccer.
A biennial event the Games will host a range of sporting competitions tiers from amateur through to sub-elite. 16 sports have been chosen for the 2019 Arafura Games including, Athletics, Table Tennis, Boxing, Football (Soccer), Badminton, Swimming, Tennis, Muay Thai, Sailing, Indoor Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Weightlifting, Basketball, Hockey, Netball and Sepak Takraw. An integrated para program will be included in Athletics, Swimming, Tennis, Netball and Table Tennis.
Emerson, whose first love of sports was basketball, has developed a love of running over the last three years and is now competing at a National Level, with aspirations of one day representing Australia at the Olympics. This week Emerson featured in the Games media campaign, due to launch soon. Emerson will take to the track to compete in both the 800 and 1500 metre and we wish him the best of luck.
