DHS at the Australian Science Fair
In late November, three Darwin High School Year 10 students, Gabriella Francis, Tahlia Freijah and Vincent Mondol along with Mr Ergos and Ms McConnell travelled to Melbourne to attend the John Monash Science School and Monash University Australian Science Fair.
Held on campus and face-to-face for the first time in years, the event features exhibits and displays from secondary school students from across Victoria and Australia. It was our first interstate excursion in three years.

Going to the Australian Science Fair in Melbourne was an amazing opportunity and experience. We enjoyed partaking in a range of activities, including STEM challenges, innovation activities and listening to talks from professional scientists and researchers. It was really great to learn from other student’s presentations and posters about various topics, and to collaborate throughout the activities. Our favourite part of the trip was exploring Melbourne city, as we got a chance to visit the State Library of Victoria, and the Melbourne Science Gallery. We also appreciated the chance to stay on Monash University campus, and to explore some of their impressive facilities. Overall, we had a great time, made friends with other students at the Science Fair, and learnt a lot.
A big thank you to Darwin High School teacher Ali Kirlew and Stephen Cook from CSIRO for supporting students with their project in the lead up to the Science Fair.
Gabriella, Tahlia and Vincent were recognised by Monash University with a Scientific Communication Award which was presented at our Year 10, 11 and SIEU Awards earlier this week.
