Battle of the School Bands

On Friday 7 April Darwin High School and Darwin Middle School students came together to celebrate the end of term and the final heat of Battle of the School Bands.
The event was part of a collaborative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) program between the schools' music programs to strengthen the partnership across both schools music programs and provide students with a seamless transition from Middle to High School.
In its eighth year, Battle of the School Bands is a band competition for Northern Territory schools, which sees the winners play alongside international acts at the annual Bass in the Grass music festival in May 2017.
The competition is open to all middle and senior students who can enter as a part of a band, duo or soloist.
The Battle of the School Bands final was held in Brown's Mart Theatre courtyard on Friday 21 April and broadcast live via NT Music School Web page http://www.ntms.net.au/. Contestants will be required to perform two original songs each and the winners will be selected by a judging panel comprising of local music industry professionals.
Darwin High School Year 11 student and Battle of the School Bands finalist Ziggy Durling (pictured below) was interviewed by local radio station Hot100 last week. You can listen to his live performance by clicking here .
