Beam Me Up Kate
By DHS Dance teacher, Sarah Calver
Beam Me Up Kate (BMUK) produced and performed by SLIDE YOUTH DANCE THEATRE, directed by Joanna Noonan, featured many current DHS students and DHS alumni. This large-scale show was an incredible production, a feast for the senses.
BMUK = It's the year 2024. In the aftermath of a global pandemic, 10 Gen Zs gather in the middle of a field of wildflowers, gazing with hope toward interstellar space. Ten beautiful misfits, whose hearts need mending. Meanwhile, in a galaxy far, far away the Golden Record sent into space aboard 1977s' Voyager Mission has landed in the expert hands of H.O.P.E Inc. of the planet Makemake. Through a series of incredibly unreal events each character discovers the strength they each have within their own hearts, and with a little help from another galaxy, start rebuilding and beginning again.
BMUK was an uplifting work of hope and humour for young and old alike and the DHS Dance excursion to the show was an exceptional event, we returned inspired, enthused and in awe of how entertaining this epic theatrical production was.
We look forward to their upcoming show of TIME, first created at DHS in 2011 and part of the Awareness Trilogy, in September @ DEC.
In the meantime, join DHS dancers and our local dance community at a smorgasbord of dance on 31 May @ 6.30pm DANCE24 here at DHS The TANK. Followed by an original work celebrating the SLIDE and DHS partnership BEAUTIFUL performed 1 and 2 June 6.30pm Dance Room, DHS The Tank.
