Bombing of Darwin Commemoration
Wednesday 19 February 2021 marked the 79th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin. Darwin High School has a longstanding tradition of involvement with this event and this year 17 students attended the Commemoration Service at the Cenotaph.
A large crowd attended the service to honor those who died in the conflict. The re-enactment of the initial bombing raid by the Australian Defence Force provided a poignant reminder of the reality of war.

This year Darwin City Council invited our school to play an additional role at the service and Year 12 student Kyriakos Lambrinidis had the honor of reading the 'Setting the scene' speech.
Darwin High School Year 12 student Rhiannon Miller delivered the Ode and four of our SRC students laid a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of the school.

Following the service 7 of our SRC members also attended the Chief Ministers Reception at Parliament House, where they volunteered their time to chaperone veterans.
Also at the event was Mr Mark Monaghan, MLA, Member for Fong Lim.
I want to make a very special mention of the students from Darwin High School who have joined and participated in our service here today. They are an outstanding example of the talented, articulate young people we have here in the Northern Territory. Congratulations and thank you.
