Bombing of Darwin

Bombing of Darwin

Tuesday February 19 2019 marked the 77th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin. Darwin High School has a longstanding tradition of volunteering at the event and this year thirty of our students assisted with the ceremony.

Each year the remaining Defence of Darwin Veterans, their families and even Evacuees return to Darwin to commemorate this significant part of Australian History.

A large crowd attended a service at the Darwin Cenotaph to honour those who died in the conflict. The re-enactment of the initial bombing raid by the Australian Defence Force provided a poignant reminder of the casualties of war.

Our students chaperoned the Veterans to the event and laid a wreath on the Cenotaph for Darwin High School. Year 12 student, Alanah Hardy (pictured above left), delivered the Ode.

Following the service some of our student leaders also attended the Chief Minister’s Reception at Parliament House.

We are incredibly proud of our Student Leadership group and their willingness to volunteer their time.
