Café Craft
Another successful semester of Stage 1 Integrated Learning – Coffee Shop has concluded, with two classes delivering delicious food and drinks to students and staff. The café was open at lunchtimes on Tuesday and Thursday, serving students and staff an impressive array of savoury and sweet food, and hot and cold drinks.
The café uses our world class hospitality facilities, and gives students a real experience of running a commercial enterprise, including food preparation, portioning and presentation, using an espresso machine, customer service, money handling, team work and problem solving.
The café was extremely popular with both students and staff, often selling out of some items.
‘Café Ah Toy is really delicious; it’s like home cooked food.’ Ciara, Year 12
‘They serve a lot of people really efficiently. It’s convenient and has a variety of different types of food’ Molly, Year 12
‘It’s a good experience for students and they get to learn about running a business. We wish it was open more’ Amilda and Mafata, Year 10
‘The milkshakes are awesome!’ Huy, Year 11
Over the semester students take on more responsibility for café operations, and in the final week all aspects of the café were successfully managed by the students. All the staff and students of Darwin High School would like to say a big thank you to Ms Potter and the Stage 1 students for making the café a huge success in Semester 1.
