Calligraphy Workshops

Calligraphy Workshops

Last week our Japanese Language students participated in a series of Japanese calligraphy workshops.

The workshops were provided thanks to the support of the NT Government through an International Education Innovation Grant. Students practiced basic strokes and learned how to use the 'Four Treasures,' which are calligraphy tools.

They also learned how to use pressure on their brushes to achieve the desired effect on their writing, as well as how to concentrate on writing to clear their minds. They also taught that the practice is closely linked to Japanese Zen culture and martial arts. Students created the final copy using Japanese rice papers after some practice.

The ten best calligraphy works will be framed and displayed at school.
