Chef in Residence
The Home Economics Department has been lucky enough to have had the services of a ‘Chef in Residence’, Anita Marriott, for the past two months. Anita has been ‘on loan’ to Darwin High from her position as chef at Government House.
During her time with us, Anita has been a valuable asset to the Home Economics staff and students. Anita’s extensive experience in catering has been put to good use and has had a lasting positive impact on our students and our teaching programs. She has assisted in Year 10 Stylish Food classes, helping the teachers and students devise recipes for the McCormick’s Flavour Forecast national cooking competition. She also worked with the Stage 2 Food and Hospitality students, helping them to develop recipes for their noodle salad assessment task.
One standout achievement was her involvement in making a cake for Pride Day on 19 August. She baked a rainbow layer cake to be sold on Pride Day, and mentored some of the Year 12 Catering students in cake decorating techniques to produce a stunning cake that truly celebrated the first Pride Day held at Darwin High School. Anita has been a valuable addition to our school and we are very grateful for having had the opportunity to be the recipients of her knowledge and skills. We will miss her terribly when she returns to Government House on 1 September.
