Dance Showcase
By teacher Sarah Calver
The Darwin High School Dance Showcase on November 12 was entertaining, engaging and exciting. The talent showcased by all performers illustrates why Dance is so vibrant and supported at DHS by these students and their families.
The 35 Stage 1 dancers presented a range of new works, a selection of repertoire from past products and their own choreography. The opening number Bollywood’ was what it should be. - Fun, energetic & colourful. I feel privileged to teach such an enthusiastic and engaging group of students who actively took on the challenge of learning so many diverse works over the past four weeks. Their energy and trust in themselves, each other and the dance program is to be applauded and their achievements are truly inspirational. Many of the works chosen demonstrated the pivotal learning that goes beyond the classroom and connects students to the dance industry and real life. The skills learnt transferring into all aspects of their lives and their productive problem solving and ability to take on feedback and guidance in positive ways is exemplary. The DHS dance students were extremely captivating and their show was beyond sensational - all the dancers Year 10 and 11 bought the audience and stage to life with their incredible dance moves.
Our guests and collaborators SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre DHS wowed audiences with their sophisticated and complex movements. We were able to share their Darwin symphony orchestra performance PICTURES via a delightful glimpse into the high calibre performances this incredible Youth Company produces. Brilliant dancing 💃🕺
Bill Surtees’s lighting was stunning and added to the visual impact each dance work created. Stan Whiting and EPRINTS poster design and donation of this was once again very welcomed.
Once again, the Dance Dept. Showcase attracted an appreciative and supportive audience - friends, families, colleagues and general community members. Audience feedback has been exceptional.
👏👏👏👏Congratulations to everyone involved performers, choreographers and volunteers.💃🕺💃
