Darwin High School Class of 1996 20 Year Reunion

Darwin High School Class of 1996 20 Year Reunion

Around 60 former Darwin High School students from the Class of 1996 attended a 20 year Reunion last month. The event was organised by Darwin High School alumnus Laddawan TeMaro.

The reunion saw former students travel from Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Many of them had not been back to Darwin since they graduated and went interstate for University studies.

Saturday afternoon they took a trip down memory lane and had a tour of the school.

While some things remain the same, a visit to the Library caused some surprise. Pictured above are Darwin High Alumni Bhilly Cheung and Brian Chambers reminiscing in the Library. All were reassured to see the Science specimen jars had made their way from the old science rooms on the top floor of B Block, to the new Ah Toy Building, ‘E’ Wing.

Many recalled with fondness, Sister Hall's 'hang-out' and the support she had provided for them, especially in their final year of school.

A visit to the old Year 12 Common Room, now A0: 01, brought back many memories, as did a walk down the A and B block corridors as they searched for their former homerooms.

Then it was off to the Tank and Amphitheatre to re-live PE and Drama exploits. In the Tank, they were impressed by the new yellow security screen, with many recalling coming out of the Toilets, only to be hit in the head by a wayward ball.

Another part of the school which had made lasting impression was the display of Vestey photos in the Tank, with the visitors to Darwin disappointed they were not able to view them again.

The two hour trip down memory lane was appreciated by all, as they left to prepare themselves for a glamorous dinner later in the evening, where no doubt the stories and memories would take on an even greater meaning.
