Darwin High School Invitational Basketball Team wins International Tournament

On Friday 16 June our DHS Boys Basketball team departed Darwin for Malaysia. Year 10 students Manoj Rajkumar and Zeb Hantlemann, Year 11 students William Burton, Steven Kalikajaros and Lucas Duncan were joined by Ned Stevens, Bayden Paterson-Dunn, Dante Ah Sam and Billy Paterson were representing Darwin High at the 6th International High School Basketball Championships in Penang. Last weekend the team reclaimed their title as champions, winning the International High School Basketball Championships in Malaysia.

Darwin High School has won the 6th International Schools Basketball Tournament in Penang, Malaysia. The tournament ran from June 17-June 23. In the final Darwin produced its best result defeating SMK BU3, a side from Kuala Lumpur, 110 to 40. On the way to the Final, Darwin defeated teams from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
In addition to the Championship Trophy Darwin HS won four of five individual awards through Zeb Hantelmann winning Highest Scorer, Most Rebounds and MVP and Lucas Duncan Most Assists.
All team members were highly thought of not only for their playing skill but friendly, supportive and inclusive manner. All have come home with new friendships and respect and understanding of different cultures.
In addition to games, players were also able to experience Singapore and its technologies and Monkey Beach in the National Park of Penang.
Darwin HS first went to this tournament in 2016 and won defeating the National Schools side of Macau, and in 2017 was runner up to a combined side from Toronto, Canada.
