Darwin High Students Excel in the 2025 Democracy Dash
On Monday, 40 of our Year 10 and Year 11 Legal Studies students participated in the Democracy Dash, a dynamic civic education event held in Darwin’s CBD. Competing in teams alongside students from Casuarina Senior College and St John's Catholic College, our students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, critical thinking, and knowledge of Australia’s legal and political systems — proudly securing 1st and 3rd place in the overall standings.
Throughout the day, students engaged with a wide range of institutions and organisations, including:
- Amnesty International
- Youth Law Australia
- Legal Aid NT
- Darwin Local Court
- City of Darwin
- Office of the Children’s Commissioner
- The Y NT
- NT Electoral Commission
- Parliament House
- Consumer Affairs
- Office of the ICAC

The event offered students the opportunity to sit in on live court proceedings, learn how elections are counted, explore the principles of democracy, and discuss real-world issues such as minimum wage and civil rights.
This hands-on learning experience deepened students’ understanding of legal and governmental processes, while also encouraging active citizenship and collaboration.
We extend our sincere thanks to Ms Miller, Ms Jones, Mr Wilson, Ms Bade, and Officer Sue for their time, effort, and support in facilitating this memorable and meaningful day.
