Darwin High Students Support Foodbank

Darwin High Students Support Foodbank

Last week the Year 10 Food for Life classes made nearly 300 ready to reheat meals for those with food insecurity. All of this was done in one double lesson using foods ‘rescued’ from Foodbank NT in Berrimah.

The meals made have been returned to Foodbank NT where they will be distributed to those in need. Students have been learning about the amount and types of food waste that occur in Australia and the social, economic and environmental impact of this waste. Students were amazed to learn that the average family wastes approximately one tonne of food each year.

Teacher Vicki Potter said

It is great to see our students actively involving themselves in preventing such waste and giving back to the community.

A fantastic effort by our students and their teacher, congratulations to everyone involved!
