Darwin High Students win Recipe Challenge
This semester, Darwin High School's Stylish Food classes participated in the Years 9 and 10 Flavour Forecast, an annual recipe challenge hosted by HEIA and McCormick Foods. The students were required to work in teams to create three original recipes within the set criteria.
One of the challenges was ‘culinary infused sips’ where students were required to make a drink that contained one or more fruits, a spice and a herb, and incorporated two culinary techniques from the following: roasting, pickling, bruleeing, smoking.
All the students rose to the challenge and while finding it stressful at times, on reflection they developed new skills, learned a lot about combining flavours, and improved their teamwork and organisational skills.
We are pleased to announce that one of the Darwin High School team entries was awarded the South Australian/Northern Territory State winner.
In addition to each winning student receiving a gift bag from McCormick, the Home Economics area received just over $1000 worth of Tupperware goods and $500 of McCormick herbs and spices for the classroom.
The winning entries were:
Burning Barra with Quinoa Salad and Aioli created by Sophia Politis, Gabby Bairami, Morgan Giuliani, Amilda Nawila, Tilaila Nareki and Mafata Kamara
Sweet Zest Delight created by Tiegan Fanning and Danielle Hodor
Mindil Sunset created by Kim Stevens and Fleur Wauchope
