Debating Success

Darwin High School retains the NT Senior Schools Debate Competition trophy after their Grand Final win at the Museum Theatrette last night.

The Grand Final was held between Darwin High School and Good Shepherd Lutheran College and the topic was That we should prioritise Shakespeare in the English curriculum. DHS4 argued for the negative.

It was a spirited debate and the audience was entertained with quality substantive matter and engaging speakers.

The DHS team included Year 12 students Eddie Gardiner, Emma Stevens, Nisangi Wijesinghe, Evan Keith and Sam Roussos.

The speakers in the final were Nisangi, Emma and Eddie (pictured above). Emma Stevens was also awarded the Best Speaker medal for the debate.

Congratulations to the team and well done to all involved.

Any students wishing to participate in debating for 2018 should speak with Ms Schuman in the English faculty.
