DHS Debate Champions

DHS Debate Champions

Darwin High School fielded three teams in the Northern Territory Debate Competition this year. Each of the teams participated admirably and enjoyed the competition whilst developing their skills in public speaking and argument.

The final of the Darwin Schools Debating Competition was held in the theatrette Tuesday 30 April. The final didn’t disappoint, with our teams delivering an interesting debate. The showdown was between two exemplary teams from Darwin High School on the topic "that nuclear weapons promote world peace". The affirmative were awarded the win.

Congratulations to the following students on making the final:

Team 1

Samuel Roussos, Joel Keith, Nuhansi Wijesinghe, Farok Al-Ibrahim, Elissa Huntingford, Sophie Johnson, Xinyu Xiu

Team 2

Lachlan Anderson, Harvie Stiller-Wojkowski, Faiza Choudhury, Matilda Newman, Callum Scott, Beka Beer, Sasini Perera

Special mention to the second runners up, also from Darwin High School who just missed out on making the final, Matilda Anderson, Diana Mukayeva, Otto Blum, Shaun Thomas and Olivia Anderson.

Congratulations to all the students on a great season of debating.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated debating coaches, Melody O’Meara, Jared Sharp and, special envoy to debating Sam Schuman.
