DHS School Wide Instructional Model

Implementation of the DHS School Wide Instructional Model (SWIM) is continuing in 2025, with staff set to participate in structured professional development throughout Semester 1 and 2.
The SWIM is an important framework for our teaching team and ensures that we have a shared understanding of how to deliver highly effective teaching and learning. The model includes five key pillars: High-Quality Planning, Explicit Instruction, Connection, Inquiry and Knowledge Utilisation, Feedback and Evaluating and Refining Practice.
What does this mean for students? The SWIM is designed to enhance student learning experiences (across all year levels and subjects) through a consistent approach to teaching and learning. In the classroom this looks like consistent language and expectations that prepare students for learning and reduce confusion. Differences you may notice include assessment task sheets that clearly articulate task requirements, conditions and assessment criteria.
A copy of the DHS SWIM handbook has been uploaded to the website and can also be accessed via Compass under School Documentation/For Parents/DHS School Wide Instructional Model.
